We took a quick trip up to Seattle last week to adopt a cute little 7-week-old puppy. His name is Steve. He is 1/2 English Labrador Retriever, 1/4 (presumably, American) Labrador Retriever and 1/4 Golden Retriever.
I kind of wanted to go with a different breed. When we fostered the German Shepherd puppies last month, which were the most beautiful puppies that had ever come through rescue, I was holding them at too high a standard by trying to compare them with Hanno. I let a perfectly good puppy get away because of this.
A Labrador Retriever is still blonde like Hanno and will have a similar temperament to Hanno, but he is different enough that my mind won’t try to compare him to Hanno. Steve only has one job, which is to be Derek’s best friend.
